Am I a good candidate for Abdominoplasty?
Are you considering Abdominoplasty or otherwise known as a tummy tuck? If you have gained weight and then lost it, chances are the middle section of your abdomen still has traces of where the fat was.
Abdominoplasty is a procedure that removes the excess fat and skin.
This can sometimes restore the muscles that have become weak over time. The end result is a smooth firm look and feel of the skin.
If you choose to have Abdominoplasty you will need to exercise and eat healthy in order to tone up the abdomen. You may have been trying all along but had no luck. If the abdomen protrudes, is loose or is sagging it is usually due to some type of belly surgery, it is hereditary, aging, pregnancy, or due to the weight loss. When any of these occur it is hard to get back the firmness even if you lose the added weight. It’s important that if you choose Abdominoplasty you are doing this for yourself and not for others.
You may be a good candidate of Abdominoplasty if you have a stable body weight, you don’t smoke, and you know what to expect. You can’t wake up from the surgery with a new abdomen. You will need to take care of it and take care of yourself in order to get the look that you desire. Abdominoplasty only jumpstarts the process by getting rid of some extra fat and firming the muscles that you will need in order to obtain the right look for you.
You shouldn’t consider Abdominoplasty for a weight loss solution or for an exercise program. It cannot remove stretch marks either. It will only remove the fat already deposited in the abdomen area and firm the muscles so you can tone them.
During your Abdominoplasty consultation with Dr. Pillai, you will want to ask questions to ensure that you understand the procedure. Have a list of all your medications that you currently take over-the-counter and prescribed. Dr. Pillai will need to know if you have had any previous surgeries. Dr. Pillai will go over your health status, any pre-existing conditions, take photos for your medical records, and discuss any outcomes that can be expected.
After the Abdominoplasty, you will have dressings or bandages that may need to be changed regularly. Dr. Pillai may also wrap the area in an elastic bandage or compression garment in order to keep down the swelling and provide support until healing is complete. You may also have a small drain tube that is placed under the skin temporarily to keep down swelling after the Abdominoplasty procedure. This tube will drain any blood or fluid that may otherwise cause swelling and discomfort.
