Eyelid Lift to correct vision
As you age, the skin around your eyes may become thin and the muscles may relax, This can allow for fat to deposit in these areas which will result in bags under the eyes and a droopy eyelid on the top. This condition usually starts out slow and over time you may be able to see it more and more but it still doesn’t cause too much damage, or so you think. When you look to the side of your eye and you see skin, it is time to consider an Eyelid Lift.
An Eyelid Lift is also referred to as Blepharoplasty. Eyelid Lift is a surgical procedure performed by Dr. Pillai and with minimal discomfort. This type of surgery is performed on an outpatient basis instead of an overnight stay unless any complications should arise.
Should you consider Eyelid Lift?
If you begin to notice signs such as puffiness on the upper eye lids, an excess amount of skin on the upper eyelid that may begin to block your peripheral vision, droopy eye lids on the bottom of the eye that shows the white area under the iris, or bags under the eyes then you may want to consider having an eyelid lift.
During the surgery, Dr. Pillai will begin with a thin incision that is made across the eye lid in the natural pattern so there is no evidence of scarring. The excess skin, fat, and muscle are removed and the incision is then closed up using small sutures or surgical tape. If the Eyelid Lift is performed on the lower part of the eye, then the incision will go with the contour of the eye underneath so you do not see a scar when it is healed. Again, Dr. Pillai will remove the excess fat, skin, and muscle and suture it back up and healing can begin.
After the Eyelid Lift is complete, which takes around two hours, Dr. Pillai will apply an ointment that lubricates the eye and keeps it from drying out during the healing process. You may notice temporary blurred vision but this is due to the ointment and not the surgery. Over the next few days, you may see that the eyes are black, bruised, sore, and swollen however this will go away as the Eyelid Lift heals. Dr. Pillai can advise you on treatment for these symptoms to minimize discomfort.
The pain is usually minor so you should find relief with over the counter pain medication. Follow up on any appointments Dr Pillai schedules you for to ensure a healthy and successful Eyelid Lift.
